“The Blood You Donate Gives Someone Another Chance At Life. One Day That Someone May Be A Close Relative, A Friend, A Loved One—Or Even You.”

There is a constant need for regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use. Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people are needed. We value life over everything. We also know blood donation is a safe, simple and rewarding experience to save someone’s life. At our institute, we organize blood donation camps every year in collaboration with Blood Banks / Social Clubs / NGO, etc. It’s an appeal to join us in this great noble cause “Donate Blood: Save Life”.

Blood Donation Camp 2014-15

Blood the most integral part of life is given to those who need it by those who have the resource to satisfy the need. The love of fellow human and a desire to share something of one is what singles out a blood donor from the others. Emergencies occur every minute. For each patient requiring blood, it is an emergency and the patients could have set back if blood is not available.

The blood donation camp was organised by Pillai HOCL Educational Campus associated with Rotary club of Patalganga on Tuesday 4th February, 2014 at 9.00 am. Deputy CEO Dr. Lata Menon inaugurated this social event. The students of Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology – Diploma Section were actively participated in the social activity to make this event a grand success.

This endeavor was initiated by students and even the faculty members turned out in huge numbers to contribute for this social cause. The students from entire campus responded warmly to the noble cause and it turned out to be a huge success.

Initially students were quite apprehensive about donating blood; however the volunteers and the team of doctors carried out group discussions and cleared their doubts regarding the myths on Blood Donation. There were doctors from Dr. B. V. Limaye blood bank, Panvel who guided and advised the students’ volunteers and the donors. Refreshments were provided to the donors. Each donor’s hemoglobin level and weight was checked before the donation. The donors and the volunteers were also given a certificate of appreciation and a donor card.

The total number of bottles collected was 180. The enthusiasm was so great that 200 persons registered for the blood donation camp. We hope that even in the future our college continues to render its name and support to such social causes and we will continue to help humanity in all the ways we can.

Blood Donation Camp was held at Pillai HOC Educational Campus at Rasayani at 7th February, 2011. The camp has strong support by the enthusiastic Engineering, Management, Polytechnic, Architecture, B.Sc. I.T., B.Com., B.M.S. students, who donated in large numbers.

Doctors of the camp informed the students about the importance and significance of this voluntary service. About 200 students registered and 98 bottles of blood was collected.

The purpose of this Blood Donation Camp was to bring an awareness amongst all that how just a mere blood donation can save several lives. There may be patients suffering from cancer, accident injuries, need of organ transplants or some major surgeries, etc. who may be in dire need of blood and our blood can help save their lives. An amazing statistic reveals that every year approximately 40,00,000 people require blood which corresponds to one person per 12 seconds! Blood donation camps like these help the collection of blood of various groups viz A+ve, A-ve, B+ve, B-ve, O+ve, O-ve, AB+ve and AB-ve. And you never know you may come across some rare blood groups like O-ve and AB-ve!

The process of blood donation was simple and safe using disposable syringes. The donors were served with juice and biscuits. Just for the information of readers, there are absolutely no side effects of donating blood, no weakness caused because of blood donation. Because safe methods are used in this process, there are absolutely no chances of contracting any diseases like AIDS, etc. The actual process of blood donation lasts for around 10 – 15 minutes but it stretches upto 45 minutes which includes the time to relax.

So, dear people, go ahead and donate blood whenever you can… You may save a life.

After all, Blood… its in you to give!!! so save a live…
